Master Class in Erosion and Sediment Control: Post-Fire Remediation and Field Demonstrations

This two-day course features advanced training on erosion and sediment control and storm water management, a group planning session for areas affected by wildfire, and a focus on post-fire hazard assessment and remediation, including the specification and application of sustainable management practices (SMPs) as they apply to wildfire affected areas.  The afternoon of the second day will include field demonstrations on the application and installations of SMPs at the Orange County Great Park.
The first day of the course will address the principles of erosion and sediment control and the function of best management practices (BMPs) used on construction sites. Advanced topics such as updates to the current regulatory environment, soil sampling and analysis, and the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) will be presented. There will also be a group planning session for stormwater management on construction sites.
The morning of the second day will address professional certification programs, qualifications, and application procedures. The remainder of the morning classroom session will focus on post-fire hazard assessment and remediation, including the specification and application of sustainable management practices (SMPs) unique to wildfire affected areas.

In the afternoon of the second day, field demonstrations on the application and installations of erosion and sediment control BMPs will be demonstrated at the Orange County Great Park site.
