Qualified Inspectors and State-specific CGPs: Pathways to Creating a Qualified Inspection Workforce

When:  Oct 5, 2023 from 01:00 PM to 02:00 PM (MT)

Moderators: Kristi Anspach, CPESC and Donald Pearson, EI, CPESC
PanelistsRebecca Forman, David Harris, Kendra Henderson

This webinar is put together by the IECA Erosion and Sediment Control education track committee. In the 2022 Federal CGP, the term ‘qualified inspector’ was defined to include a required minimum certification level for all sites operating under the federal CGP. To support this, the EPA has created a national certification program, and has approved other certifications that also meet this standard. Currently, some states have state-focused certifications that have been approved as meeting the new EPA standards, which allows state-based (delegated authority states) inspectors to gain greater knowledge of the NPDES permit, practices, BMPs and requirements that affect the projects they are inspecting. The panel will discuss how states have launched certification program and discuss how successful the current programs are. The group will dive into lessons learned on creating a program, and how the program should develop over time.
