COLLABORATE TODAY. SUSTAIN TOMORROW.

Northeast Chapter Virtual Book Nook

As we prepare to cozy up this winter, let’s take a deeper dive into four industry-relevant books with authors reflecting on the past, addressing current environmental conditions and inspiring professionals to play a more active role in changing the future.

The Geography of Risk
Epic Storms, Rising Seas, and the Cost of America's Coast
By Gilbert M. Gaul
A detailed study of coastal development in the United States, much of which is not sustainable. The book details coastal flooding and property loss, and how the federal government has been increasingly footing the bill for insuring and rebuilding disaster prone properties along our coastline.

Rising
By Elizabeth Rush
This wonderful book takes a look at climate change, rising seas, and the resulting threats to our heavily developed coastline. Case studies along America's coastlines, from east to west, bring home the vulnerability of coastal communities and the important decisions we face.

Silent Spring
By Rachel Carson
This book, written in 1962, changed history. It is often cited as a key driver of the environmental movement. Just 10 years after its publication, Congress voted the Clean Water Act into law in the United States. A must-read for anyone involved in natural resource protection.

All We Can Save: Truth, Courage and Solutions for the Climate Crisis
Edited by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson & Katherine K. Wilkinson
An inspiring collection of prose and poetry, offering many ideas, observations and facts relative to the climate crisis. The book contains the work of 60 women committed to meeting the challenges of global warming head-on.
