Hello IECA members!

I am Joanna Fetherolf – Managing Director of Conferences & Education for IECA. I manage the conferences and education put on by IECA, constantly striving to provide our membership with the education you seek and the experience you expect when you participate in IECA programming. One of my passions is building impactful events through programming, collaboration and connection. Today I wanted to share some unique KCMO experience we have lined up for the IECA 2023 Annual Conference & Expo. Oh and by the way – did you know we are co-located with the Advanced Textile Associations Geosynthetics conference this year? Attendees will have access to both education programs and the expo hall will be double in size!

Pre-conference programming starts on Sunday, February 5th and you don’t want to miss the opportunity to participate in 3 hour interactive workshops with leading industry instructors. Then join us for the Kansas City BBQ & Brew Tour. We’ll begin our tour at Boulevard Brewing Company with a tour of the facilities and tasting room samples. Boulevard was founded in 1984 after founder John McDonald wondered into a bar on vacation that specialized in Belgium beers and knew he could bring that flavor back to Kansas City. Following the Brewery we will travel to Jack Stack Barbecue to enjoy a sampling of some of their top barbecue dishes. Jack Stack Barbecue is currently fourth generation owned after being founded in 1957 by Russ Fiorella. We will close the day with our annual IECA Welcome Reception with our host chapter: IECA Great Rivers at No Other Pub. No Other Pub by Sporting KC is a one-of-a-kind sports bar, game parlor and social lounge in downtown Kansas City's Power & Light District.

After a full program of education, featured panels, engaging keynotes and vibrant Expo Hall, don’t forget to register for an industry field tour! This year we are offering three tours:

RideKC Streetcar Construction as we will explore the expansion of the Kansas City streetcar, stops will include green infrastructure, constructions BMPs, erosion and sediment control and stormwater management.

Berkley Riverfront Development is a prime development opportunity in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, with nearly a mile of riverfront property on the Missouri River. With a sprawling 17 acres of scenic riverside greenspace in downtown Kansas City, Berkley Riverfront provides a natural escape from the city. Soon, the city of Kansas City will be home to the first soccer stadium in the U.S. built specifically for a women’s soccer team. Set to open in 2024, this $122 million, 11,500-seat soccer and 8,000 seat concert venue will sit on seven acres of Berkley Riverfront property and stand as the new home to the Kansas City Current.

Kansas City Smart Sewer System will take you on a journey of what’s underground in Kansas City. KC Water’s Smart Sewer program – the City’s largest infrastructure investment – uses strategic, data-driven solutions and innovative, cost-effective overflow control technologies to address combined sewer overflow (CSO) challenges in a way that protects our community and ensures the improvements and investments made today will last for generations. The program is committed to capturing 85% of the combined sewer flows by 2040.
